I started the day trying to get to Aspen, but to no avail. Having been defeated the previous day in traffic on the road to Breckenridge, this time we took an alternate route: US 285 to Fairplay, over Hoosier Pass to Frisco, and I-70 towards Aspen. I planned to go to Breckenridge today, take some photos of the town, and do some skiing. But I spent most of the day stuck in traffic on I-70, like many of my fellow citizens. I forgot about the holiday crush of locals looking for winter fun and out-of-staters lured in by the phenomenal snow the resorts have been getting. I have often passed the sign on I-70 advertising Buffalo Bill’s gravesite. Today, I decided to exit. Winding my way along the road north of I-70, I saw many things, including the futuristic wedge of a house where Woody Allen filmed his movie “Sleeper”, the monster homes of Paradise Hills, Genesee, and Lookout Mountain, and the historic Boettcher Mansion. I headed up to the mountains today. My family and I share a cabin not far from Conifer along the US 285 corridor. I wanted to go up and spend the night there before the Christmas craziness hit Denver in full force.
