Hillary

Monday, July 24th: Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) spoke today at the swanky Hyatt Regency hotel in Denver about the American Dream, focusing her remarks on restoring economic opportunity and strengthening the middle class. Echoing her husband’s catchy slogan “It’s the Economy, Stupid”, used to great success against George Bush Sr in 1992, Clinton floated the tag line “It’s the American Dream, Stupid”, perhaps to use against her Republican challenger in 2008. President Bush

Friday, July 21st: Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-Colo) led a protest today at the Universalist Church in Denver against President Bush’s veto of her stem cell research legislation. This legislation, which would have allowed federal funding of stem cell research, was vetoed by President Bush on Wednesday, the first time that he has vetoed a bill during his six years as president. The rally also expressed opposition to the war in Iraq. The protesters, waving placards that read “Shame”, “Bush Needs Jail Cell”, and “Liar, Liar, World on Fire!”, were targeting the traffic along Hampden Ave, the presumed route of President Bush’s motorcade and those attending his $1000 a plate dinner ($4,200 for a photo with him) at the private residence of Charlie Gallagher about one mile away in Cherry Hills Village. Swing That Mallet

Yes, it was that hot, and I was perversely wishing that I had been guilty of more momentous crimes, like those dwelling in the ninth circle of hell, who had the good fortune of being encased in ice. A strange thing to wish for, dear blog reader, but there you have it. So there I was on a hot Sunday, sweating like a madman from every pore of my skin, observing (and a member in good standing of) the mint julep sipping, Great Gatsby crowd at the Denver Polo Classic, one of the largest charity polo tournaments in the USA. Mayor Hickenlooper & Friend

Wednesday, July 12th: Mayor John Hickenlooper gave his State of the City address today at the Wellington Webb building in Denver. His term winding down next year, the mayor trumpeted his successes, including reducing crime, homelessness, and increasing tourism. But the focus of his speech was a major environmental initiative called “Greenprint Denver”, a plan that includes reducing greenhouse emissions, planting thousands of new trees every year, and expanding the use of hybrid vehicles by the city. Keystone’s New Drop Zone

Just Drop In

Just Drop In

About a month ago, Keystone opened up an outrageous drop zone in its already extensive network of trails at Keystone Bike Park. The Bike Park consists of 35 trails (ranging from green to double black) largely on the frontside of Dercum Mountain (11,640 ft) just above River Run Village. Located off the Paid in Full trail, the new drop zone has four alleys leading to a series of mind numbing (and potentially body crunching) drops. Read on …
