Dying to Run

Run For Your Life

Friday, Oct 27th: The 7th Annual Scream Scram took place in Wash Park today with around 900 people participating in a 5K run/walk, a 100 Meter Spooky Sneak for kids, and a 5K Nordic walk. Some were serious and showed up in their spandex, marathon watches, and well toned bodies; others, in the Halloween spirit, dressed up (variously) as the Pope, Mr Potatohead, and the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. Run by the Scream Agency, an advertising firm in LoDo, this annual Halloween event is all about having fun, getting a little exercise, and raising money for Multiple Sclerosis. Read on …

Senator Barack Obama

Nice Smile

Tuesday, Oct 24th: Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill) was in Denver today to promote his book “The Audacity of Hope” at the Tattered Cover in LoDo and attend a rally for Ed Perlmutter, the Democratic candidate for the Congressional 7th district. Pretty heady stuff for a Senator with only two years under his belt. Read on …

Skiing in October

Friday, Oct 13th: Yep, they opened on Friday the 13th. And it wasn’t even scary or unlucky or involving a murderous rampage by a Snow Yeti. Nope, it was simply that on Friday, October 13th, A-Basin became the first Colorado ski resort to open for the season, beating Loveland and everyone else for that matter. In fact, they were the first ski resort to open anywhere in the nation. So, snow fanatics everywhere should celebrate the arrival of Old Man Winter (or at least the opening of one run at one ski resort thanks to the technology of machine-made snow) and get their planks tuned up for the season. Rough Day

South of the Border

Oct 4th-Oct 11th: For my 40th birthday, I wanted to mix it up a little, so I flew down to Mexico on one of those hollow tube things. Stepping off the plane onto the runway (just like in the 1950’s) at the Cancun airport, the heat and humidity of the semi-tropical jungle hits you like a wall, and as it did, I mumbled a small prayer of thanks to the benevolent gods as I pictured myself lying in a hammock on a palm-treed beach, listening to the sound of crashing, green waves rolling in from the Caribbean. And in a few short hours, so it was. Read on …
