Saturday, Dec 16th: The U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix, featuring many of the top snowboarders in the nation (think Olympic medalists), held its final day on the superpipe at Breckenridge. Along with the X Games, US Open, and Triple Crown, the Grand Prix is an important race for the aspiring (or many laurelled) snowboarder. 23 year old Kelly Clark, gold medalist in the 2002 Olympics, won the women’s competition while 18 year old Danny Davis took the top spot on the men’s side. Both winners took home $14,000 dollars from the first major pipe competition of the 2006-2007 season. Read on …

Wednesday, Dec 13th: Former President Jimmy Carter was in Denver at the Tattered Cover bookstore in LoDo to promote his new book Palestine Peace Not Apartheid. Around 500 people, forming long lines that snaked back and forth in the Tattered Cover, waited for hours to see the former President and Nobel Peace Prize winner and have him sign their book. Outside the bookstore, a dozen protesters handed out leaflets criticizing him for being anti-Israel, with heated arguments about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict breaking out here and there. Friday, Dec 1st: At the men’s World Cup races at Beaver Creek, top American skier Bode Miller took the highest spot on the podium, winning the prestigious downhill race. Struggling on Thursday during the Super Combined races, and coming off a disastrous season last year (only two wins), Bode showed the crowd and the world that he still has it. More importantly, it was a huge day for the US Ski Team, with Steve Nyman taking third place (his first World Cup win) and two other teammates placing in the top 10. Read on …
