May First Protest

More than 50,000 immigration supporters rallied in Denver this morning. The streets in and around the capitol were filled with supporters chanting and holding signs proclaiming thier support for the U.S. but not for immigration policies. Many protested legislation that would criminalize undocumented workers in the U.S. “Sí, Se Puede” was shouted from the steps of the capitol to the grass in Civic Center Park. For a majority of the morning traffic was disrupted around the metro area. The protesters gathered in Viking Park and marched down Speer Boulevard towards Civic Center Park much to the surprise of passing motorists. Many were stopped for almost an hour while the protesters marched. Click on the photo above to view the gallery. Please feel free to comment. Enjoy.

Jazz Celebration at Metro

Jazz. Jazz music is something that I have always enjoyed. It’s not often that I get to experience it on a firsthand basis. The radio, cd’s and yes even records (vinyl, those big black plastic things that some of us still enjoy) do not do it justice. To be there and witness the passion that jazz musicians have for the style is incredible. The jazz fest at Metro featured music from local and touring artists. The Bad Plus, Kathy Kosins, Groove Society and The Faculty Septet headlined 3 nights of performances. I was there with my camera in hand. Click on the photo above to view the gallery. David 1

David Garibaldi

David Garibaldi performed at Metropolitan State College of Denver as part of homecoming 2006 celebrations. His outrageous style of painting to music brings an energetic approach to a normally peaceful art. Garibaldi mixes his unique painting with a positive life philosophy to create a performance that is both entertaining and educational…it also makes for some fun photos. I know this is a little late but in my humble opinion the images are pretty nice. Click on the photo above to view the gallery. Feel free to comment. Thanks and enjoy.

Chinese New Year 1

Chinese New Year 4703

Chinese New Year 2006 or is it 4703? Jan. 29, 2006 is the first day of the Chinese new year. It is the year 4703 on the Chinese calendar. It is also known as the year of the dog or its formal name bingxu. There are 12 animal names and they are reused every 12 years. The Chinese calendar predates the International Calendar and has been continually used for centuries. In Denver, the spirit of the celebration was alive and well. On Sunday I went to the Far East Center on the southwest corner of Alameda and Federal. Click on the Photo above to view the gallery. Feel free to comment. Enjoy.
